Marina Turova - A life in costume design, theatre, and art

Renowned as one of Russia’s top costume designers, Marina Turova specialised in costumes design for opera, ballet and children’s theatre. Trained at the prestigious Moscow Textile Academy, she worked since 1981 as a fashion, set and costume designer for theatre, cinema, television, ballet, opera, circus and cabaret.  She has worked for Moscow’s most prestigious theatres, including the Bolshoi and the Vakhtangova, where she was resident costume designer from 1986-1991.  She is a “People’s Artist of the Russian Federation” and since 1991, has lived and worked in Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Florence. Her current work reflects both her academic training and her passion for multi-layered abstract forms.

“As an artist, my work is not dependent on the tools I use, but on the results that I can achieve, and the frontiers that I can explore.  Digital tools allow me to extend my creative language and discover new ways of marrying form, colour and emotion.”
